Typography, the quintessential element of visual communication, bridges both the fine art and graphic design disciplines, and is the focus of my personal (non-client) work. My objective is to assemble typographic artifacts in an alphabetic gestalt, where the whole is more fluent than any individual piece. “Zealous” is a sculpture that centers around a plywood letter “z” I found below a billboard in Ohio. A dilapidated one room schoolhouse was located near the signage and heavily influenced the academic theme of this work. The barbed wire, doorbell and rusty roofing metal also came from this unique rural location.
