The Secret Species Project is an ongoing exploration of how character design can engage with audiences young and old and serve as a teaching tool for many social issues. I was awarded a Creative and Performing Arts Grant from the University of South Carolina to teach children about literacy and art at AC Moore Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina. Students were given a box that contained art materials and an inspiration booklet to make their own “Secret Species”. Students made drawings and paintings and wrote stories using their characters in Art and English class.
