The Island is a collaboration of storytelling mediums: a short story written by Josiah Titus, printing and illustrations by Nate Christopherson and book design and printing by Karl Engebreston. We capitalized on a variety of printing methods to construct an engaging, cohesive art piece that also begs to be read. The story focuses on the main character voluntarily wintering on Madeline Island, WI while the rest of its population leaves during these harshest months of the year. All of our design decisions were made to enforce the barren, wintery landscape of the South shore of Lake Superior.
